"Making the invisible visible" was the objective for my intermediate diploma. I therefore decided to concentrate on photosynthesis, i.e. plant respiration. Everyone knows that plants carry out photosynthesis and, in doing so, produce oxygen. However,a small survey showed that many people are not really aware that oxygen and glucose are only produced when the sun shines - plants cannot carry out photosynthesis when they are in the shade.

My objective was to illustrate this finding with my project. The attached solar cells produce energy when the sun shines - this drives the ventilator which expands the sphere. Through the regular inflation and deflation of the sphere, I have attempted to create a parallel to human breathing/lungs.

Making photosynthesis visible creates a new reference point for plants and makes them "come to life".
